Penticton RCMP investigating RV arson

Penticton RCMP are investigating an arson attack on a camper trailer.

A video posted to social media showed what appeared to be a man throwing a Molotov cocktail at a fifth-wheel RV trailer at a Penticton campground.

The man then retreated to a grey car and fled as a couple emerged from the trailer, frantically attempting to douse the flames.

In the brief video, the fire appeared to die down before leaving much damage or injuring anyone involved.

Little is known about the incident so far, but it’s believed to have occurred last weekend on July 4 or 5.

Penticton RCMP confirmed it’s being investigated but would not provide any more details.

“In order to protect the integrity of the investigation, the evidence obtained, and the privacy of those involved, the RCMP generally would not comment during the course of an investigation,” Const. Olivier Nelis said in an emailed response.

iNFOnews.ca has not been able to identify the campground, nor reach the person who shared the now-removed video to social media.

According to online court records, no one has been charged.

Nelis said RCMP will only provide information about investigations in select cases, like when investigators seek tips from the public.

“Generally, only in the event that an investigation results in the laying of criminal charges, would the RCMP confirm its investigation, the nature of any charges laid and the identity of the individual(s) involved,” his emailed response said.
