iN TRAFFIC: Prepare for snowfall in the Interior

Travellers can expect snowfall in Kamloops and the Okanagan today, Feb. 1.

Two to four centimetres of snow is in the forecast throughout the region, and Environment Canada is calling for a high of -1 Celsius and low of -4 C in Kamloops, Kelowna, Vernon and Penticton.

On the roads, there are reports of multiple vehicles blocking the southbound lanes of Highway 5, north of Clearwater.

Highway 1 has compact snow between Kamloops and Sicamous, according to DriveB.C. Highway 3 has compact snow from Princeton to Osoyoos; Highway 3A has compact snow between Keremeos and Kaleden; Highway 5A has compact snow between Merritt and Kamloops; Highway 97 has compact snow between Osoyoos and Summerland, and Highway 97B has compact snow throughout.

Charles Andrews commutes from Armstrong to Sicamous via Highway 97A. This morning around 6 a.m. the road had layer of compact snow and ice, and it was snowing the entire way. 

"Give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination and all will be good," he said. "Lots of sand on the corners."

At the ski hills, Big White Mountain Resort is reporting 2 centimetres of new snow and 26 cm over the past week; Sun Peaks Ski Resort got 1 cm since yesterday and 24 cm over the past week; SilverStar Mountain Resort got 4 cm yesterday and has a fresh snow depth of 3 cm today; Apex Mountain Resort got 7 cm since yesterday and 24 cm since last week.
