From raunchy to violent, vanity licence plates rejected by ICBC in 2022

ICBC rejected roughly 67% of the requests for personalized license plates last year for not meeting the insurance corporation's guidelines and deemed objectionable.

Of the 9,467 requests for slogans on licence plates in 2022, the ICBC team tasked to review the submissions rejected 3,135, according to an ICBC media release issued today, Jan. 19.

“Slogans are rejected if they don't meet guidelines and criteria or if they're deemed objectionable,” ICBC said in the release. “For instance, if they're discriminatory, sexually suggestive, abusive or derogatory in any language.”

HELL NO was refused by the Crown corporation because it was considered to be violent, criminal or bullying.

CHAPO, SO HIGH and OG LIFE were rejected because they relate to drugs. 

VIRUS was banned under the category of religion, politics, public figures, dignitaries and law enforcement officials.

Combinations that tried to reproduce intellectual property like HONDA and SPRITE were also disallowed.

Here are some of the others that made ICBC's list of the top rejected vanity plates: ZOOOOM, U2SLOW, BLU BYU, SHIRAZ, ROCKET, LAUNCH, BLURRR, LYTMUP, M-PIGGY, GAS PIG, SUPCHG, DEMON, VOODOO, PIRACY.

"We've seen increased interest in personalized plates in the last few years," Sandy-Anne Dodig with ICBC said in the release. “Personalized licence plates can be a fun and creative way to express yourself, and are available for regular passenger vehicles, motorcycles, vans, light trucks and motor homes."

Some of the requests were bit too racy for the insurance company, slogans like ASSMAN and WE SUCK.
