Atmospheric river to dump snow on Coquihalla and Connector

A snowfall warning has been issued for Thursday afternoon through Friday morning by Environment Canada.

It covers the Coquihalla Highway from Hope to Merritt and the Okanagan Connector from Merritt to Kelowna.

It’s expected that 15 to 20 centimetres of snow will fall.

“An atmospheric river will bring heavy snow to the high elevation mountain passes beginning Thursday afternoon,” the warning says. “Gusty southwesterly winds will further reduce visibility in blowing snow.”

The freezing level will rise above 2,000 metres Friday afternoon which will change the snow to rain, easing off Friday evening.

Weather and driving conditions can change quickly in the mountains so drivers are advised to check DriveBC, here, for the latest updates.
