Get ready for snow this weekend on southern Interior mountain passes

Several highway passes are expected to get snow by the end of this week, so be sure your winter tires are on.

The southern Interior is shifting into winter as the Coquihalla Highway, Okanagan Connector and Trans-Canada Highway all see snow on Friday, according to a special weather statement issued by Environment Canada today, Oct. 19.

"As a colder airmass arrives with a Pacific weather system on Friday, periods of snow will likely give some accumulations from Friday afternoon to Saturday over the elevated highway passes," the special weather statement reads.

High elevation routes affected include the Coquihalla from Kamloops to Hope, Highway 97C from Kelowna to Merritt and the Trans-Canada from Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass.

Environment Canada doesn't say how much snow to expect, but it should last from Friday afternoon until Saturday.
