Reckless driver from Alberta nabbed in Kamloops drive-thru

RCMP in Kamloops caught up with someone driving recklessly from Alberta when they stopped at a local drive-thru.

Police say they fielded multiple reports of a vehicle being driven recklessly from Red Deer to Kamloops on Friday, Aug. 19, according to an RCMP media release.

Officers from the Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP detachment in Kamloops were called at around 5:15 p.m. to help Barriere and Kelowna officers catch the driver, who was wanted on a Mental Health Act warrant.

Police spotted the suspect vehicle near Rayleigh and followed it as it left the Trans-Canada Highway and pulled into a drive-thru in Valleyview.

The driver was taken to Royal Inland Hospital as per the warrant, RCMP said.

Earlier that day, at approximately 8:45 a.m., Kamloops officers caught up with another erratic driver, this time in a plaza parking lot in the 1100 block of Columba Street West.

Police stopped the vehicle, and the male driver resisted and was arrested for obstruction, police said.

The man was handed a 24-hour driving prohibition, tickets for not have insurance or a valid driver’s licence and the vehicle was impounded.

The suspect was taken to the detachment for a Car 40 assessment and it was determined he was having a mental health crisis. He was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to the hospital for care and an assessment.
