Three Shuswap residents killed in Highway 1 head-on crash

Three Shuswap residents were killed yesterday in a head-on collision on the Trans-Canada Highway west of Sorrento.

Chase RCMP said a black sedan travelling eastbound in the 400 block of Highway 1 crossed the centre line and collided head-on with an SUB travelling westbound.

The 51-year-old driver of the eastbound vehicle, a man from Sorrento, and the driver and passenger of the westbound vehicle, a 67-year-old woman and 60-year-old man, both from Blind Bay, were all killed in the crash.

The collision took place at roughly 1 p.m. July 5 near Little River Road.

Chase RCMP Sgt. Barry Kennedy said the case is still under investigation and it is not known why the eastbound vehicle crossed the centreline.

Sgt. Kennedy said the driver of the eastbound was from Sorrento and the couple killed were Blind Bay residents.

Following the fatal accident, the two lane highway was closed for four hours.

Sgt. Kennedy said the B.C. Coroners Office is also investigating the fatal crash.
