Westside Road near West Kelowna to reopen on Monday following landslide

Westside Road will be closed through the weekend as crews work to clear the landslide that washed out the route between West Kelowna and Vernon earlier this week.

Crews are working to clear the debris left by the slide and repair the damaged road, according to a Ministry of Transportation press release issued today, April 4. The blockage is 13 kilometres east of West Kelowna between Main Street and Denison Road.

Crews will also be adding new culverts at the site to protect that section of road from any future slides.

“The washout occurred following heavy rainfall, which triggered water and debris to release down a channel and cover the road,” the ministry said in the release. No structure damage or injuries were reported in the landslide.

The ministry expects the road to reopen to single lane alternating traffic on Monday.
