Vernon RCMP search for witnesses after car strikes cyclist on Highway 97

Police are searching for witnesses to a collision just north of Vernon that left a cyclist with serious injuries.

First responders were called to the scene on Highway 97 near Swan Lake Market and Garden around 2:30 p.m. on May 5, according to a press release from Vernon RCMP.

A white Honda Accord was going south when a man on a bike tried to cross the highway. The cyclist rode right in front of the car and the driver couldn’t avoid the crash.

The cyclist was seriously hurt and transported by BC Emergency Health Services.

The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

RCMP are asking anyone who saw the crash, or has any video of it, to call Vernon RCMP at 250-545-7171 and quote file number 2025-6741.
