Police investigate impaired driver in fatal collision near Kamloops

The driver who killed two women on the Coquihalla Highway near Kamloops on Friday could have been impaired.

Police are conducting an impaired driving investigation of the driver who was going the wrong way up the highway during the fatal crash on Friday, according to a press release from police.

The victims, a 36-year-old and 27-year-old, were in a white Hyundai Kona heading north on the Coquihalla Highway around 9 p.m. on Sept. 5.

The Hyundai collided with a grey Dodge Ram pickup that was going the wrong way down the highway.

The next of kin for the victims are international so they are still being informed about the tragedy.

There were three other people injured in the crash, including two other passengers in the Hyundai and the driver of the Dodge.

“We have made progress in this investigation, but we are still looking for more witnesses and dash camera video,” Cpl. Michael McLaughlin said in the release. “If you saw the driver of a grey Dodge Ram pickup doing anything suspicious in the minutes or hours leading up to the fatal crash, please call us.”
