Motorcyclist injured in hit and run in New Westminster, B.C.

Police in New Westminster are asking for the public’s help after a hit and run Saturday evening between a van and a motorcyclist.

They say officers responded to a crash in the 200 block of McBride Boulevard at about 5:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Police say they learned that the motorcyclist had been struck by a white van, but the driver had then fled the scene.

They say the motorcyclist was brought to the hospital and police are now encouraging the van driver to come forward.

The department is also asking anyone with dash camera footage of the areas or nearby CCTV footage to reach out.

It says in a separate release that officers also responded to a crash involving a pedestrian in the area about four hours later at the intersection of 8th Street and 4th Ave. in the city.

They say the pedestrian’s injuries were deemed serious by paramedics and he was brought to hospital, but the driver in that case stayed at the scene.

Police say they are canvassing the area for CCTV footage as well and are asking any witnesses who may have left the scene before police arrived to reach out to the department to share what they saw.
