North Okanagan RCMP crack down on excessive speeding on high-risk roads
North Okanagan RCMP targeted speeding drivers on three high-risk roads in the region Tuesday handing out several tickets and impounding three vehicles.
The crack down was conducted, May 26, on Highway 97 and 97A along with Westside Road, according to an RCMP media release.
“Speeding and aggressive driving is a serious concern and we’re going to target and remove these drivers from the road,” RCMP Const. Chris Terleski said in the release.
An SUV doing 151 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 97A near Greenhow Road had their vehicle impounded for excessive speed.
Later in the day, also on Highway 97A near the same intersection, a motorcyclist was clocked going 167 km/h in a 100 km/h zone. They were fined and had their bike impounded.
A motorcyclist was caught travelling 128 km/h in a 60 km/h zone on Westside Road near Six Mile Creek Road. The rider, who didn’t have a licence, will have to pay several fines. He was arrested on outstanding warrants.
“With summer comes the temptation to hit the gas but we want drivers to resist that urge and obey the rules. Remember, your choices impact everyone’s safety so please drive responsibly,” Const. Terleski said.
