Video led police to West Kelowna man who didn’t stop for school bus

West Kelowna RCMP have caught up with the driver who passed a school bus while children were getting off thanks to a video posted to social media.

Police reviewed the footage of a truck passing a school bus with its red lights flashing and stop sign extended, according to a press release from police issued today, June 10.

Officers were able to identify the vehicle, find the registered owner’s home in West Kelowna and hand him $725 worth of tickets.

“We were able to identify the suspect driver in the incident and issued violations for failing to stop for a school bus and driving without due care and attention,” Const. Gordon Carson said in the release.

“We want to remind all motorists that stopping for a school bus displaying flashing red lights is mandatory and critical for the safety of children.”

The security camera video was posted to a Facebook group by Tiffany Genge on April 8 and it showed a truck driving past the bus while three kids were getting off.

“This reckless dumbass nearly hit three children… It wasn’t until the bus driver laid on the horn before the truck reacted. It was like he didn’t even see the bus or the kids running at all,” Tiffany Genge wrote when she posted to video to social media.

“Make this guy famous.”
