Some university students living in Quail Ridge are feeling unsafe commuting to and from the UBC Okanagan campus.<\/p>\n
This is because their area is limited to city transportation from 7:15 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the weekdays only.<\/p>\n
For many students who have later classes and people who work until 5 p.m. this is “a huge safety issue” according to a petition created by the University of British Columbia Students’ Union that represents more than 12,000 students at the Okanagan campus.<\/p>\n
Without the bus, students are walking up to four kilometres along a high-traffic road or through an unmaintained trail that provides the danger of darkness, animals and lack of cell service, the petition reads.<\/p>\n
The union is asking for signatures to bring awareness to the issue and get more busses or provide other safer alternatives. <\/p>\n
The petition was started two days ago and has collected more than 200 signatures so far.<\/p>\n
