A 49-year-old Falkland man was killed yesterday after the vehicle he was a passenger in crashed on Highway 97.<\/p>\n
According to a Vernon North Okanagan RCMP media release the single-vehicle fatal collision took place near the intersection of Salmon River Road at roughly 7 p.m. Nov. 8.<\/p>\n
"The investigation has determined that a Ford Escape was travelling westbound on Highway 97 when it left the roadway and plunged down a steep embankment, overturning several times," the release says. "The passenger, a 49-year old Falkland man was ejected from the vehicle and sadly, was pronounced deceased at the scene."<\/p>\n
Police say the driver was taken to hospital for assessment before being released.<\/p>\n
"On behalf of the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP, I want to extend our sincerest condolences to the family and friends of the deceased," Vernon RCMP Const. Chris Terleski said in the release.<\/p>\n
Police say an investigation into the collision is still ongoing.<\/p>\n
The RCMP provided no other information.<\/p>\n
