{"id":1411,"date":"2023-01-10T05:51:59","date_gmt":"2023-01-10T13:51:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infonews.ca\/inwheels\/2023\/01\/09\/in-traffic-driving-conditions-improving-on-thompson-okanagan-highways\/"},"modified":"2023-01-10T07:02:26","modified_gmt":"2023-01-10T15:02:26","slug":"in-traffic-driving-conditions-improving-on-thompson-okanagan-highways","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/infonews.ca\/inwheels\/news\/1411\/in-traffic-driving-conditions-improving-on-thompson-okanagan-highways\/","title":{"rendered":"iN TRAFFIC: Driving conditions improving on Thompson-Okanagan highways"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> With slightly warmer weather and less snow, the highways leading into Kamloops and the Okanagan are improving but drivers still need to take care.<\/p>\n<p> A vehicle fire on the&nbsp;<strong>Coquihalla Highway<\/strong>&nbsp;about a kilometre south of the Surrey Lake Summit has the northbound, right lane closed until further notice.<\/p>\n<p> According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.drivebc.ca\/mobile\/events\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>DriveBC <\/strong><\/a>there are slippery sections on the <strong>Coquihalla Highway<\/strong> from 6 km south of the Great Bear Snowshed to 12 km north of the Coquihalla Summit.<\/p>\n<p> On the <strong>Okanagan Connector<\/strong>, there are slippery sections between<strong> Merritt<\/strong> and the Pennask Summit and compact snow from there to <strong>West Kelowna.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> There are a few foggy patches in some areas and some compact snow between <strong>Princeton and Hedley<\/strong> on<strong> Highway 3<\/strong> along with slippery sections in the <strong>Sicamous<\/strong> area.<\/p>\n<p> On Highway 97 there is some water pooling in the <strong>South Okanagan<\/strong> and some slippery sections from 13 km south of <strong>Coldstream<\/strong> to 17 km north of <strong>Vernon<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p> There are also slippery sections on the highway through to<strong> Monte Creek<\/strong> and on <strong>Highway<\/strong> 97A from <strong>Vernon to Sicamous.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> The<a href=\"https:\/\/weather.gc.ca\/forecast\/public_bulletins_e.html?Bulletin=fpcn68.cwvr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong> B.C. Travellers Forecast<\/strong><\/a> says there&rsquo;s a 60% chance of snow flurries this morning on the <strong>Coquihalla Highway <\/strong>between <strong>Hope<\/strong> <strong>and<\/strong> <strong>Merritt<\/strong> and 40% from <strong>Merritt to Kamloops.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p> The only other regional highway with a mention of snow is<strong> Highway 1<\/strong> from<strong> Eagle Pass to Rogers Pass <\/strong>and that&rsquo;s only at 30%.<\/p>\n<p> The <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.gc.ca\/city\/pages\/bc-45_metric_e.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Environment Canada forecast high for <strong>Kamloops<\/strong><\/a> today is 4 Celsius with a mix of sun and cloud.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.gc.ca\/city\/pages\/bc-48_metric_e.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Kelowna<\/strong><\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.gc.ca\/city\/pages\/bc-27_metric_e.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Vernon<\/strong><\/a> should be mainly cloudy with a high of 2 C.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/weather.gc.ca\/city\/pages\/bc-84_metric_e.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Penticton<\/strong><\/a> is forecast to have a high of 3 C with a 30% chance of showers this morning.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sunpeaksresort.com\/ski-ride\/weather-conditions-cams\/weather-snow-report\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><strong>Sun Peaks Ski Resort<\/strong> <\/a>had 1 cm of new snow in the last 24 hours leaving the hill with an alpine base of 137 cm.
