Salmon Arm RCMP got a new truck and it’s all electric.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Its 2024 Ford F150 Lightning was added to the fleet as part of the federal agency’s zero emission pilot project for its fleets, according to a July 8 news release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is an exciting trial for our detachment,” detachment commander Staff Sgt. Simon Scott said in the release. “Testing an electric vehicle in day-to-day policing helps us understand how these new technologies can support policing services while reducing our environmental footprint.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The new truck will be seen patrolling Salmon Arm neighbourhoods and the surrounding area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Though it’s a first for the Shuswap area detachment, it will be far from the last. The federal fleet overhaul aims to replace half of its gas-powered light-duty vehicles with “zero-emission vehicles” by 2030, continuing to 100 per cent by 2035, according to the federal government website.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" Salmon Arm RCMP got a new truck and it’s all electric.
