Adam got out of the vehicle, and Favelldrove off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She made a U-turn, hit the gas and clocked 95 km\/h heading towards Adam and hitting him with her vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She swerved at the very last moment, and Adam tried to jump out of the way, but it was too late and he was killed. He was 35.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today, Jan. 22 at the Kelowna courthouse, Adam\u2019s sister Stephanie Lawrence spoke through floods of tears about her family\u2019s loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOn August 19, 2022,&nbsp;a careless, senseless, and ultimately fatal choice was made. In that single moment,&nbsp;countless lives were forever changed.&nbsp;An innocent life was taken,\u201d Stephanie told the court. \u201cLosing Adam has left a void so deep,&nbsp;it feels as though half of me is missing.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" data-secret=\"yfuB4w23m7\"><a href=\"https:\/\/infonews.ca\/news\/7504056\/in-numbers-seven-charts-show-impact-of-rising-kamloops-okanagan-police-budgets\/\">iN NUMBERS: Seven charts show impact of rising Kamloops, Okanagan police budgets<\/a><\/blockquote><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"wp-embedded-content\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts\" security=\"restricted\" style=\"position: absolute; visibility: hidden;\" title=\"&#8220;iN NUMBERS: Seven charts show impact of rising Kamloops, Okanagan police budgets&#8221; &#8212; iNFOnews.ca\" src=\"https:\/\/infonews.ca\/news\/7504056\/in-numbers-seven-charts-show-impact-of-rising-kamloops-okanagan-police-budgets\/embed\/#?secret=KsZOy7p4E8#?secret=yfuB4w23m7\" data-secret=\"yfuB4w23m7\" width=\"600\" height=\"338\" frameborder=\"0\" marginwidth=\"0\" marginheight=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In a long victim impact statement to the court, Stephanie described how their mother had left when they were young and she, Adam and their father were everything to each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cWe faced life&#8217;s challenges as a team\u2026 it feels as though half of me is missing. The pain surfaces every time I share a moment with my father, knowing that his only son is gone,&nbsp;and that I am all that remains,\u201d she said. \u201cAdam was a loving and devoted uncle to my two children.&nbsp;He was deeply involved in their lives, not just as family,&nbsp;but as a mentor.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stephanie said Adam wasn\u2019t the person described in the courtroom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adam and Favelle had only been together for six months, and their relationship was described as \u201cacrimonious\u201d and involved substance use.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stephanie said Adam was only a social drinker and a regular gym goer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe was adventurous, athletic, outgoing and a kind person,\u201d she said. \u201cAdam had dreams, goals, ambitions.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">However, Stephanie said things had changed when he began dating Favelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe withdrew from us and others, (which) was completely unlike him\u2026 he would reach out, seeking help,\u201d she said.&nbsp;\u201cHe did not want this life.&nbsp;He told me he was ready to leave that life behind.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThe person described in (court)&nbsp;was not the Adam that we all knew and loved.&nbsp;This was a version of Adam that only existed for six short months, a version that none of us had ever come to know.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Stephanie didn\u2019t hide her disdain for the person who killed her brother.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIn the last few years,&nbsp;I have consistently experienced angst, jealousy,&nbsp;anger and pain.&nbsp;Anger and pain due to the complete lack of remorse shown by the accused,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Favelle wasn\u2019t arrested after killing Adam and it took more than a year before she was finally charged with second-degree murder, criminal negligence causing death and dangerous driving causing death.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/infonews.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot-2026-01-22-at-1.17.21-PM.png\" alt=\"|\" class=\"wp-image-7512488\" title=\"|\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Ka-Mikosit Favelle appears in this April 2025 photo. INSTAGRAM\/Ka-Mikosit Mae Favelle<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In July 2025, the 30-year-old, who goes by the name Kami Mae Favelle, <a href=\"https:\/\/infotel.ca\/newsitem\/kelowna-woman-who-hit-and-killed-partner-with-car-pleads-guilty\/it109891\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">pleaded guilty to manslaughter<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cAdam&#8217;s death was not just a tragedy, it was preventable, and (that) decision took him from us for the rest of our lives,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Adam\u2019s father, Philip Lawrence, also addressed the court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cParents are not supposed&nbsp;to bury their children,&nbsp;especially not in such a senseless way.&nbsp;Adam is deeply missed,\u201d he said. \u201cWe miss his smile, his humour&nbsp;and his compassion. Adam cared deeply about people and always showed compassion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Philip said that since Adam\u2019s death, he retired and struggled to find motivation or hope.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cFor three long years,&nbsp;I have lived with overwhelming grief,&nbsp;anxiety, and depression.&nbsp;I hope that when justice is finally done,&nbsp;it will bring some small measure of closure,&nbsp;though I know the pain&nbsp;will never truly go away,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-embedded-content\" Jordan Schroeder asked for six to seven years in jail, while the defence wanted a sentence of house arrest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The court heard how Favelle had schizophrenia and her statements to doctors and psychologists were full of inconsistencies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Some of what she said was blatantly untrue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Crown prosecutor said she told a report writer she was a certified paramedic, but at most had done a three-week course at Okanagan College, and even with that, she had np documentation to prove it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She told another report writer she was a qualified nurse, when she actually only took some online certificates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Favelle also lied about how long she was sober, giving mixed dates to different doctors and then having blood tests returned that showed she\u2019d been using MDMA and meth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Crown continued casting more doubt on many of Favelle&#8217;s claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The sentence hearing is
