Two people were killed and three others were seriously injured when a driver plowed into people<\/a> in a busy shopping area in the German city of Leipzig Monday in what officials believe was a deliberate attack. <\/p>\n

An unspecified number of people sustained less serious injuries, and the driver, a 33-year-old German citizen, was detained in the car, authorities said. Prosecutors said he is under investigation on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. <\/p>\n

Other vehicle-ramming cases have claimed lives or left survivors badly injured. Last summer at least 37 people were injured when a car was driven onto the sidewalk and into a crowd<\/a> outside a Los Angeles nightclub. Thirty-five people were killed when a driver rammed his car into people exercising at a sports complex<\/a> in southern China in 2024. <\/p>\n

LOS ANGELES, July 19, 2025 \u2014 At least 37 people are injured when a car is driven into a crowd outside a Los Angeles nightclub. Authorities say bystanders then attack the driver, who is shot and injured. Prosecutors later file dozens of attempted murder charges against the 29-year-old who they say intentionally rammed the crowd<\/a>. The case is still pending. <\/p>\n

LONDON, May 26, 2025 \u2014 A 53-year-old British man plows his minivan into a crowd of Liverpool soccer fans who were celebrating the city team\u2019s Premier League soccer championship<\/a>, as shouts of joy turned into shrieks of terror, injuring more than 45 people.<\/p>\n

VANCOUVER, British Columbia, April 26, 2025 \u2014 A suspect is charged with multiple counts of murder<\/a> after an Audi SUV speeds down a closed, food-truck-lined street and hits people attending a festival, killing 11. Officials say 32 people are hurt. Authorities say the suspect, a 30-year-old man, had a history of mental health issues.<\/p>\n

NEW ORLEANS, Jan. 1, 2025 \u2014 At least 15 people are killed and dozens are injured after a U.S. citizen from Texas rams a vehicle<\/a> into a crowd of pedestrians in New Orleans\u2019 bustling French Quarter district at 3:15 a.m. on New Year\u2019s Day. The FBI identifies the suspect as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar. He is killed in a firefight with police.<\/p>\n

WAUKESHA, Wisconsin, Nov. 21, 2021 \u2014 Six people are killed and dozens injured when a man drove his SUV through a Christmas parade<\/a> in suburban Milwaukee. Darrell Brooks Jr., who drove into the crowd after getting into a fight with his ex-girlfriend, was sentenced<\/a> to life in prison with no chance of release.<\/p>\n

LONDON, Ontario, June 6, 2021 \u2014 Four members of a Muslim family are killed when an attacker hits them with a pickup truck. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau calls it \u201ca terrorist attack, motivated by hatred.\u201d White nationalist<\/a> Nathaniel Veltman is sentenced to life in prison.<\/p>\n

BARCELONA, Spain, Aug. 17, 2017 \u2014 A man rams a van into people on the Spanish city\u2019s crowded Las Ramblas boulevard, killing 14 and injuring others. The Islamic State group claims responsibility. Several members of the same extremist cell<\/a> carry out a similar attack in the nearby resort town of Cambrils, killing one person.<\/p>\n

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Virginia, Aug. 12, 2017 \u2014 During a \u201cUnite the Right\u201d rally, white supremacist James Alex Fields Jr. drives his car into a crowd of<\/a> counterprotesters, killing one woman and injuring dozens of people. Fields is serving a life sentence<\/a> for murder and hate crimes.<\/p>\n

LONDON, June 19, 2017 \u2014 Darren Osborne, a man radicalized by far-right ideas, drives a van into worshippers outside a mosque in Finsbury Park, killing one man and injuring 15 people. Osborne is sentenced to life in prison.<\/p>\n

LONDON, June 3, 2017 \u2014 Three attackers drive a van into pedestrians on London Bridge<\/a> before stabbing people in nearby Borough Market. Eight people are killed, and the attackers are shot dead by police.<\/p>\n

LONDON, March 22, 2017 \u2014 Khalid Masood rams an SUV into people on Westminster Bridge<\/a>, killing four, then fatally stabs a police officer guarding the Houses of Parliament. Masood is shot dead.<\/p>\n

MELBOURNE, Australia, Jan. 20, 2017 \u2013 Six people are killed and more than 30 injured when a car hits lunchtime crowds at a pedestrian mall. James Gargasoulas<\/a> is found to have been in a state of drug-induced psychosis and is sentenced to life in prison.<\/p>\n

BERLIN, Dec. 19, 2016 \u2014 Anis Amri, a rejected asylum-seeker from Tunisia, plows a hijacked truck into a Christmas market<\/a> in the German capital, killing 13 people and injuring dozens. The attacker is killed days later in a shootout in Italy.<\/p>\n
