Police did a series of random checks on commercial vehicles over two days in Kamloops and found an increase in violations when compared to the previous year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
BC Highway Patrol was one of dozens of agencies that took part in the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance International Road Check from May 12 to 14, according to a press release from police issued, June 16. The effort was meant to make sure trucks comply with safety regulations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Officers checked thousands of vehicles weighing more than 5,000 kilograms at random and inspected 400 over the three-day period. Normally officers only stop and inspect vehicles with obvious or likely defects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the road check police gave out 44 violation tickets, 59 written warnings and 38 orders for defects to be repaired. This is up from last year\u2019s road check when officers gave out 31 violation tickets, 29 written warnings and 28 orders for repairs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cThis is a year-over-year effort where we pool resources to check commercial vehicles on our highways,\u201d BC Highway Patrol Central Region\u2019s officer in charge Insp. Rob Nason said in the release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During this year\u2019s road check officers were especially focused on cargo securement and tampering with electronic logging devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
