BURNABY \u2014 A teenage boy has been seriously injured in a crash in Metro Vancouver involving an electric dirt bike, in the second such collision in two days.<\/p>\n
Police in Burnaby, B.C., say the latest crash happened between the e-bike and a vehicle on Tuesday afternoon on the Barnet Highway near Cariboo Road North.<\/p>\n
The rider, a 15-year-old boy, was taken to hospital with serious injuries, while the driver of the other vehicle remained at the scene.<\/p>\n
The crash comes a day after a 13-year-old was also badly injured in Maple Ridge when an Audi pulling into traffic collided with the teenager riding an e-scooter.<\/p>\n
Police in Abbotsford, B.C., have also issued a warning to riders after two teens were caught driving an e-dirt bike at speeds reaching 55 kilometres an hour and weaving through traffic before they were stopped by an officer.<\/p>\n
Abbotsford police say BC Children\u2019s Hospital has reported 81 e-bike- or e-scooter-related visits to its emergency department in the year between April 2025 and ending in March 2026. <\/p>\n
That number is more than double the 37 visits reported for similar emergency visits in the previous year. <\/p>\n
