West Kelowna officers watched from their police vehicle as a motorcyclist performed dangerous stunts on Highway 97 last evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The officers were driving southbound on Highway 97 near Grizzly Road around 5:06 p.m., July 2, when they saw the rider performing stunts like \u201ccatwalking\u201d, or riding on one wheel, according to an RCMP media release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When they turned on the lights and siren, the rider appeared to be stopping then took off at a high rate of speed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“Choosing to accelerate away from police at a high rate of speed is reckless and unacceptable,\u201d RCMP Const. Ash Puri said in the release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWhile officers discontinued their attempt to stop the motorcycle in the interest of public safety, we remain committed to identifying the rider.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Police managed to catch some video of the suspect on their bike with a body worn camera and have released an image.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
RCMP say the suspect is a Caucasian male and he was riding a white sport motorcycle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Anyone who witnessed the incident, recognizes the motorcycle or rider, or has dashcam footage from the area around the time of the occurrence is asked to call West Kelowna RCMP and reference file 2026-41288.
