gears up for rail hub near Kamloops"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tk&#8217;emlups is planning to expand its riverside rail yard into an inland transportation hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its proposed transportation hub would be along the CN rail line and part of the First Nation&#8217;s 7Mile District industrial project, <a href=\"https:\/\/kamloops.civicweb.net\/document\/218056\/CORR_06%20Jun%2016%202026%20LOS%20-%207Mile%20District%20Island%20Ap.pdf?handle=47235D155BA343AFAEA99B49FBC155DE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to documents submitted to Kamloops city council.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If built, the Tk&#8217;emlups te Secwepemc 7Mile Rail plan is proposed to ease transportation congestion in Vancouver by hosting a hub further inland where the CN and CPKC lines converge in Kamloops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sc.w\u00e9n\u0313wen Economic Development Corporation, the First Nation&#8217;s business arm, is leading the charge behind the inland port and has <a href=\"https:\/\/scwenwen.ca\/7mile-district\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">plans for a renewable fuel project in the same area<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s a joint project with Azure Sustainable Fuels and is expected to produce renewable aviation and diesel fuels near the rail yard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There&#8217;s already a CN rail yard on the site, between Highway 5 and the North Thompson River. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s not clear whether the rail company is backing the project, but the plan still in early phases. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Concept planning and engagement with rail companies will come in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The First Nation&#8217;s submission to city council indicates it is actively looking for partners and investors, along with &#8220;government and defence-aligned stakeholders,&#8221; and it has already applied to Transport Canada for funding. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s seeking city council&#8217;s support in the effort.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The First Nation is pitching the
