SURREY \u2014 British Columbia’s police watchdog says it’s looking for witnesses after a Surrey police vehicle was involved in a crash with a pickup truck that ran into a concrete SkyTrain barrier, injuring the driver and leaving a pedestrian with serious injuries. <\/p>\n
The Independent Investigations Office of BC says the crash happened around 3 a.m. Monday after officers tried to stop the pickup truck near King George Blvd. and 96 Ave. <\/p>\n
The civilian agency says the driver of the pickup didn’t stop for police and ended up crashing into the barrier after colliding with a police vehicle. <\/p>\n
It says both the pickup driver and the pedestrian were taken to hospital, and the Surrey Police Service notified the IIO shortly after the crash occurred. <\/p>\n
Police say the pedestrian is in hospital with life-threatening injuries, while the driver was left with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. <\/p>\n
IIO investigators say they’re looking for witnesses and any video footage of the crash, and anyone with information is asked to contact the IIO by phone or email. <\/p>\n
