A 59-year-old Vernon man behind the wheel of a muscle car was caught going 151 km\/h in a 100 zone earlier this month, the second time RCMP caught him excessively speeding and impounded the same vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An officer pulled over the black Dodge Challenger Hemi R\/T at around 10:15 a.m., Oct. 2, on Highway 1 near Golden for excessive speed, according to a BC Highway Patrol media release issued today, Oct. 16.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The same man was caught excessively speeding in the same car last summer by the BC Highway Patrol based in Falkland. His Challenger was impounded at that time as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The driver told police when he was stopped near Golden his car was \u201ctoo fast\u201d. The officer pointed out his car had two pedals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cWe\u2019d like to invite all drivers to experiment with using the \u2018go fast\u2019 pedal a little less,\u201d BC Highway Patrol spokesperson Sgt. Michael McLaughlin said in the release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For the Golden stop, the driver was issued a $368 fine for excessive speed and a $109 fine for tinted windows. He\u2019ll pay the cost of the tow and seven-day impound, or ICBC may increase that to 30-days for the second offence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
When you add in the high-risk driver premiums for at least three years \u2014 again he pays escalating costs because it\u2019s a second offence \u2014 the 59-year-old\u2019s penalties add up to more than $2,500.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
