{"id":448,"date":"2021-10-05T10:07:04","date_gmt":"2021-10-05T17:07:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/infotel.go-vip.net\/blog\/2021\/10\/06\/favourite-thanksgiving-day-side-dishes-desserts-ranked-by-province\/"},"modified":"2021-10-06T06:30:00","modified_gmt":"2021-10-06T13:30:00","slug":"favourite-thanksgiving-day-side-dishes-desserts-ranked-by-province","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/infonews.ca\/inwine\/news\/448\/favourite-thanksgiving-day-side-dishes-desserts-ranked-by-province\/","title":{"rendered":"Favourite Thanksgiving Day side dishes, desserts ranked by province"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> Canadians have different tastes when it comes to their favourite Thanksgiving Day dishes and desserts.<\/p>\n<p> While turkey is the anchor of nearly every Thanksgiving, Canadians have varying opinions on how best to complement their roasted birds.<\/p>\n<p> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.chefspencil.com\/canadas-favorite-thanksgiving-dishes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International food magazine, Chef&rsquo;s Pencil<\/a>, analyzed Google Trends based on the number of searches done last year around Thanksgiving to determine each province&rsquo;s all-time favourite side dishes and desserts.<\/p>\n<p> Mashed potatoes are one of the most popular side dishes in all the provinces but were most preferred in Manitoba, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island and Nunavut.<\/p>\n<p> Brussels sprouts, roasted or with ham, are the top favorite in British Columbia, Alberta, and the Yukon.<\/p>\n<p> <!-- start image2 --><\/p>\n<figure data-type=\"media\" data-slug=\"MediaItemID86230-8328.PNG\" data-filename=\"MediaItemID86230-8328.PNG\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/infonews.ca\/inwine\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/MediaItemID86230-8328.PNG\" alt=\"|\" title=\"|\"><figcaption>Chef&#8217;s Pencil<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><!-- end image2 --><\/p>\n<p> Scalloped potatoes are the number-one side dish in Newfoundland and Labrador and Butternut squash, roasted or as a soup, is the top favorite side dish in Ontario, Quebec, and Nova Scotia, according to Chef&rsquo;s Pencil.<\/p>\n<p> When it comes to sauces, gravy wins the popularity contest in almost all provinces except Newfoundland and Labrador, where cranberry sauce is king.<\/p>\n<p> Not every province prefers the classic slice of pumpkin pie, either.<\/p>\n<p> In Quebec and Newfoundland and Labrador, apple pie reigns supreme. New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island also prefer apple crisp to pumpkin pie.<\/p>\n<p> Chef&rsquo;s Pencil analyzed the data around Thanksgiving last year, focusing on the five days when the typical Thanksgiving food frenzy is highest.
