Rosé all day! Saturday, June 12 is actually National Rosé Day, officially the day to think pink. This annual holiday falls on the second Saturday in June every year, and it is the chance to celebrate some of our amazing local rosés.<\/p>\n
Thankfully the pink wave hit our wine industry and over the past few years we have now a wide range of these pretty pink B.C. wines to choose from.<\/p>\n
Today, I am excited to introduce a brand-new rosé to the lineup, one that is made with a super unique variety for our industry, Sangiovese.<\/p>\n
Sandhill Wines is Kelowna’s first urban winery, located downtown in the historic Calona Winery building. Each bottle of Sandhill wine is made from grapes that come from one of six unique B.C. vineyards – Sandhill Estate, King Family, Phantom Creek, Osprey Ridge, Hidden Terrace and Vanessa Vineyard. This Sangiovese was hand-harvested from the Sandhill Estate Vineyard, Block C9 and is a limited release.<\/p>\n
Sandhill is known for producing one of the top-selling B.C. rosés every year, but this exclusive new wine will be winemaker Sandy Leier’s second B.C. VQA rosé of the season. Made in a dry ‘Rosato’ Italian style, this wine is made up of 100% Sangiovese grapes. The Sangiovese grape varietal is a rare planting in Canadian vineyards and this rosé will be just as rare, with only 12 barrels produced (250 cases).<\/p>\n
Learn more on the website here<\/a><\/p>\n Small Lots Sangiovese Rosé<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n This wine will be available for purchase in a curated box with local goods launching on June 8 (The Sandhill Box) or through Sandhill’s Small Lots Wine Club.<\/p>\n Summer fresh bouquet of wild red berries and currant, with a touch of earth and floral. A medium-bodied, dry, refreshing rosé with flavours of currant, melon and Rainier cherry. The long lingering finish entices with notes of rhubarb, sour cherry, red berry tea, peach and earth.
