A new Indian restaurant has opened its doors in downtown Kamloops.<\/p>\n

Madras Masala & Grill has taken over the space previously occupied by Passeks Classics Cafe & Catering<\/a> downtown on 3 Avenue.<\/p>\n

When owners Ramaiah Selvaraj and Rangarajan Radhakrishnan heard about the opportunity to take over Passeks' space, they visited Kamloops and fell in love with the city.<\/p>\n

"We really, really like the city," Selvaraj said. He and his business partner made the move after spending four years running a restaurant in Surrey.<\/p>\n

"Me and my partner have 15 plus years experience," he said, explaining they have worked in restaurants in Canada as well as India and on cruise ships. <\/p>\n

Their menu features a mix of authentic cuisine from the north and south regions of India. <\/p>\n

"We have a South Indian special dosa," he said. Dosas are like a crepe, often made from lentils and rice. Different types of dosas have different fillings.<\/p>\n

"We have curries, all the North Indian curries and South Indian curries like butter chicken, chicken and lamb vindaloo," he added.<\/p>\n

They also have house-made tandoori roti, which is a flatbread made in a rounded clay oven.<\/p>\n

All of their dishes, and the ingredients in them, are made fresh in-house, Selvaraj said.<\/p>\n

They are open for dine-in, take-out and plan on serving delivery. <\/p>\n

They opened for Diwali last weekend, and business has been great so far, he said.<\/p>\n

"We are very happy," he said. "We're looking forward to doing the best for the customers, our family and friends of Kamloops."<\/p>\n
