While people stock up on food and household items to prepare for potential isolation or quarantine amid the coronavirus pandemic, several grocery stores need to hire more hands to keep up.<\/p>\n
The national workforce is in flux as many industries see shuttered businesses, while others are overwhelmed with an influx of traffic.<\/a><\/p>\n Peter's Independent Grocer in Kelowna made a post asking for 12 new staff to help meet new demand. In a post shared to the store’s social media page, it’s suggested the applications come from individuals who have lost work because of the COVID-19 related closures.<\/p>\n The Kelowna grocery store also hired employees from a local cleaning company to sanitize frequent touch services.<\/a><\/p>\n %%embed1%%<\/p>\n Peter’s Independent Grocer isn't the only place that has been hiring during the pandemic.<\/p>\n In the past week in Kelowna<\/a>, 17 full and part-time jobs have popped up in the grocery sector, including Sobeys and Choices Market. The ads listed on Google call for cashiers, bakers and clerks which are needed in deli, bakery and produce positions.<\/p>\n One new position at the Kamloops<\/a> Safeway is up for grabs, and four new positions at Sobeys have opened up in the River City, including cashier and two night stocking positions.<\/p>\n The Sobeys locations in Vernon<\/a> are now looking for three pharmacy assistants as well as a cashier. Vernon’s Save on Foods grocery stores is looking to take on two new sets of hands. According to Google job listings, the Safeway in town is also looking for a pharmacy assistant.<\/p>\n Penticton’s Nature’s Fare has openings for produce clerk and cashier, as well as an open posting, which is an option for people who want to be considered for future opportunities.<\/p>\n All of the jobs above have been added to online resources within the past week.
