{"id":8386,"date":"2026-04-01T18:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-04-02T01:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infonews.ca\/inwine\/news\/8386\/vernon-dine-and-dashers-apology-gets-him-released-from-custody\/"},"modified":"2026-04-01T18:00:14","modified_gmt":"2026-04-02T01:00:14","slug":"vernon-dine-and-dashers-apology-gets-him-released-from-custody","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/infonews.ca\/inwine\/news\/8386\/vernon-dine-and-dashers-apology-gets-him-released-from-custody\/","title":{"rendered":"Vernon dine and dasher&#8217;s apology gets him released from custody"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>A serial dine-and-dasher, whose courtroom antics have kept him behind bars longer than his sentence, has been released after he apologized to the judge.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vernon resident Travis Delain Kroeker told BC Provincial Court Judge Jeremy Guild he\u2019d like to do something to make up for his poor behaviour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYour apologies are accepted,\u201d Judge Guild said. \u201cYou\u2019re obviously in a better state of mind.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kroeker\u2019s behaviour is a far cry from weeks earlier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/infonews.ca\/news\/7549468\/prolific-vernon-dine-and-dasher-moons-judge-in-court\/\">Mr. Kroeker has now pulled down his pants and showing his naked bottom to the court on video<\/a>,\u201d the judge had said during the Feb. 25 sentence hearing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kroeker\u2019s mooning came after a rant in which he\u2019d said the judge was corrupt and evil, and called him a \u201cpiece of shit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\u2019d already insulted Crown prosecutor Corinna Merry, calling her a \u201cdumb bitch\u201d and saying that she should be in jail for the rest of her life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Appearing from custody on camera, Kroeker had been muted for much of the earlier proceedings, but got his message across by giving the judge the middle finger with both hands.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ordinarily, even the most hardened of criminals know to be polite in front of the judge, but Kroeker appeared to want to make life harder for himself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After being denied bail, he\u2019d threatened the life of a different judge, referencing a movie where a judge had been assassinated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\u2019d made other more bizarre comments, calling Canada a \u201ccult\u201d and asking a witness if he believed in magic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Kroeker found himself in custody after he <a href=\"https:\/\/infonews.ca\/news\/7530909\/vernon-judge-unimpressed-with-prolific-dine-and-dasher\/\">embarked on a spree of dine-and-dash incidents in Vernon <\/a>last year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His behaviour had been belligerent, as he\u2019d ordered food and drink and in some cases simply refused to pay.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He\u2019d ripped off the Kalamalka Hotel, Denny\u2019s, Brown\u2019s Social House, <a href=\"https:\/\/infonews.ca\/news\/7598397\/serial-vernon-dine-and-dasher-apologizes-to-judge\/\">Masiero Pizzeria, The Winston Pub<\/a>, and the Royal Garden Chinese Restaurant, where he\u2019d also assaulted a server.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As he had no previous criminal record, he was sentenced to 90 days in jail in total, but languished behind bars waiting for his contempt of court hearings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At 42 years old, it&#8217;s very late in the game to start committing crimes. One old acquaintance told iNFOnews.ca that Kroeker was a red seal electrician and had previously worked up north for years. He&#8217;d made good money and paid his bills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After his apology, which Judge Guild said was \u201cheartfelt,\u201d the judge purged his contempt of court files and ordered him to be released.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cYou\u2019re obviously in a better state of mind,\u201d the judge said. \u201cAnd given where you are now, I can just ask you to continue on the same path that you seem to be on now,&nbsp;which is moving in the right direction.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While Kroeker has been released, his ordeal with the courts isn\u2019t over yet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He&#8217;s scheduled to go to trial in June for running off without paying his tab in Denny&#8217;s last August.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cYour apologies are accepted.
