{"id":8455,"date":"2026-05-09T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2026-05-09T11:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/infonews.ca\/inwine\/news\/8455\/creative-writer-gains-following-for-praising-promoting-okanagan-culinary-scene\/"},"modified":"2026-05-09T04:00:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-09T11:00:10","slug":"creative-writer-gains-following-for-praising-promoting-okanagan-culinary-scene","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/infonews.ca\/inwine\/news\/8455\/creative-writer-gains-following-for-praising-promoting-okanagan-culinary-scene\/","title":{"rendered":"Creative writer gains following for praising, promoting Okanagan culinary scene"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>What began a few years ago with a thoughtful reflection on a bowl of stone soup has grown into an interactive online celebration of the Okanagan\u2019s culinary scene for Osoyoos resident Tina Dolphin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dolphin takes in the tastes and ambiance of wineries and expresses her experiences through prose and photography on social media where she has garnered thousands of followers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI very much enjoy giving a shout out to businesses and it let\u2019s me channel my creative writing,\u201d she said. \u201cIt began as a culinary journey that was self healing, the followers were a byproduct I was not expecting.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/infonews.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/683556418_10162843330963059_4849066923942691045_n.jpg?w=1024\" alt=\"|\" class=\"wp-image-7634730\" style=\"width:543px;height:auto\" title=\"|\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Wards Wine Country Kitchen in Oliver was recently reviewed by Osoyoos resident Tina Dolphin. SUBMITTED\/Tina Dolphin<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Originally from Edmonton, Dolphin arrived in the Okanagan in the midst of a divorce she was struggling emotionally to get through. Raised by a chef, she said she has always been a foodie so she set out to experience the culinary culture.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWhen I came out here, I wasn\u2019t quite finished with my divorce. Some days it was very gruelling and tiring, and I was emotionally getting over what I\u2019d left behind,\u201d Dolphin said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/858849888371913\/permalink\/1256310955292469\/?rdid=fJbmdYll71tXaqOe#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">She penned one of her first creative writing reviews<\/a> while eating stone soup at The Bear, the Fish, the Root and the Berry restaurant at Spirit Ridge Resort in Osoyoos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve always loved the story of stone soup,&#8221; she said. &#8220;As I\u2019m eating this soup I\u2019m melting and the knot in me is softening and could feel every little bit of me opening up and I sat there and wrote that probably within ten minutes.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When she writes, she uses different styles, sometimes more romantic and sometimes weaving in historical elements of the venue or the menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI like writing in short breaths, it lets you pause,\u201d she said. \u201cMy style is a rhythmic blend of industrial romance, capturing the grit and mechanics of a place while elevating the experience through a lens of high-contrast luxury.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m literally just sitting there jotting down the DNA makeup of a place, the pulse of it and how it makes me feel. Essentially, I don\u2019t just review a business; I archive the soul of an experience to find the harmony in the chaos.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dolphin also posts photos of interesting culinary creations on social media under the question, &#8220;Where am I now?&#8221; and let\u2019s followers guess what venue she took them in.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/infonews.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/Screenshot_4-5-2026_14589_www.facebook.com_.jpeg\" alt=\"|\" class=\"wp-image-7634713\" style=\"aspect-ratio:1.2939400474444684;width:532px;height:auto\" title=\"|\"><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">This venue has not yet been disclosed in a &#8216;Where am I now?&#8217; game by Osoyoos resident Tina Dolphin. Often the restaurants and vineyards reach out to thank her for the reviews or ask her to share her photos with them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThat just makes my day,\u201d she said. \u201cOr when I\u2019m sitting at some place and get a free glass of wine or something and I\u2019m happy knowing someone appreciates what I\u2019m doing. I\u2019m mostly doing it for myself and it took me awhile to accept the recognition.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Dolphin was the winery manager <a href=\"https:\/\/osoyoos.com\/business\/one-faith-vineyards\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at One Faith Vineyards in the District Wine Village in Oliver<\/a> for more than three years where she made several connections in the industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She&#8217;s the donation coordinator for a charity car show event in the South Okanagan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bigdaddyshotrodroundup.ca\/?fbclid=IwY2xjawRl9OpleHRuA2FlbQIxMQBicmlkETFNMGZlTzB1S2FTNlVlMnRqc3J0YwZhcHBfaWQQMjIyMDM5MTc4ODIwMDg5MgABHjHTswoiuJd33rtz7K48s2Pbifv146_nknJbz49J1jUOqFPgWlXjl7WEnbgj_aem_A2Vgx409etC-GKu66sGQNA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called Big Daddy\u2019s Hotrod Roundup<\/a> that happens every other year where local businesses donate items for a raffle and proceeds go to local charities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She plans to continue posting her reviews as an outlet for her creative writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve fallen in love with the Okanagan and I\u2019m here to stay,\u201d she said. \u201cWhere ever I go, food and wine is at the heart of the people.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/tina.touring\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Go here to follow Dolphin and read her culinary reviews.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u201cI\u2019ve fallen in love with the Okanagan and I\u2019m here to stay.
