Two of three accused Westside shooters plead guilty
KELOWNA — Two of three suspects accused of getting into a shootout with police in West Kelowna almost 2 years ago have pleaded guilty.
Ashley Alexandria Collins, 21, and Shawn Adam Wysinski, 34, entered their pleas Wednesday in Kelowna Supreme Court.
The case dates back to July 31, 2012 when Collins, Wysinski and Michael Edward Ellis were arrested after a high-speed chase on Westside Rd. It is alleged the trio stole a vehicle at gunpoint and fired shots at pursuing police.
The vehicle was eventually stopped on Westside Rd. after RCMP deployed a spike strip and fired rounds into the pickup, hitting Collins in the torso.
According to Global Okanagan, Wysinski admitted to two counts of armed robbery and Collins to occupying a vehicle that contained a restricted firearm.
The third suspect, Michael Edward Ellis, 41, faces numerous charges including attempted murder for allegedly shooting at police during the chase.
He will stand trial in Kelowna Supreme Court later this year.
