Barn fire at equestrian training farm kills 24 horses
SIMSBURY, Conn. – A barn fire at a Connecticut equestrian training and boarding farm has killed 24 horses.
The fire at Folly Farm in Simsbury was reported Thursday morning and was extinguished within minutes as more than 30 firefighters from Simsbury and neighbouring Avon responded in subfreezing temperatures.
A posting on the farm’s Facebook page says the horses died from smoke inhalation and there are no words to express the sorrow.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Farm and fire officials are notifying the horses’ owners.
Folly Farm is a 175-acre family-owned farm about 10 miles northwest of Hartford. It offers horse riding and competition lessons, boarding and polo instruction.
