Dozens of vehicles impounded due to excessive speeding

KELOWNA – In the last two months, more than 50 vehicles were ticketed and impounded for excessive speeding between Kelowna and Vernon.

Since March 1, the Kelowna RCMP Integrated Road Safety Unity conducted speed enforcement along the Hwy 97 corridor targeting aggressive drivers travelling more than 40 km/h over the posted speed limit. 

“Aggressive driving has become a major threat to the safety of motorists utilizing B.C. highways,” Cpl. Joe Duncan says. “The goal of targeting aggressive drivers is to reduce serious injury-fatality collisions along the Highway 97 corridor.”

Under the B.C. Motor Vehicle Act, vehicles travelling more than 40 km/h over the speed limit are impounded for a minimum of seven days and drivers fined a minimum of $368.

Aggressive driving enforcement will continue over the May long weekend in support of Canada Road Safety Week, May 12-18.
