Barn goes up in flames

KELOWNA – Fire officials say one barn at a rural property on Belgo Road was lost but they managed to prevent the spread to other out buildings.

Kelowna Fire Department Platoon Capt. Dennis Miller said in a release they were called just before 10 p.m. May 18 to the property and found flames from two barns. The property was so far away from a hydrant, crews had to shuttle water to their tenders.

Three engines, one rescue truck, two water tenders, one command vehicle and a safety officer responded to the scene along with ambulance, police and utilities.

"The cause of the fire is unknown at this time and fire investigators will be on scene tomorrow, the fire does not appear to be suspicious," Miller said.
