The Latest: Man caught on video after woman, 85, attacked

LOS ANGELES – The Latest on the assault of an 86-year-old Korean woman in Los Angeles (all times local):

4:45 p.m.

Police are looking for a person of interest seen running away from the scene where an 86-year-old Korean woman was punched in the face and sent tumbling to the ground in Los Angeles.

Los Angeles police Capt. David Kowalski said Monday that surveillance video captured a Hispanic man, about 35 years old, wearing a white shirt and backpack.

The attack happened Saturday afternoon, about a block from a police station in the Koreatown neighbourhood.

Kowalski says a man approached Mi Reum Song and punched in the face, causing her to fall and slam her head on the pavement.

He said detectives wanted to question the man caught on video but haven’t yet determined whether he was responsible for the attack.

Police said the victim had been released from the hospital and was in good spirits Monday afternoon.

Police are looking for a man who attacked an 85-year-old Los Angeles woman, leaving her face severely bruised in what her family has called a random and unprovoked attack.

Los Angeles police are expected to release additional details at a news conference Monday.

The victim’s granddaughter, Yujin Audrey Ko, posted a picture of her grandmother on Facebook after the attack Saturday afternoon in the Koreatown neighbourhood.

She says a man approached her grandmother and struck her in the head, causing her to fall and “split her head open.” The photo showed the woman’s eyes nearly shut and her face severely bruised.

Ko says the man who attacked her grandmother didn’t take anything and “there seemed to be no motive.”
