Canucks to host Young Stars Classic in Penticton

PENTICTON – For the fifth year in a row, Penticton will play host to the Vancouver Canucks Young Stars Classic.

The four teams taking part in the tournament at the South Okanagan Events Centre in September are made up of prospects from the Canucks, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers and Winnipeg Jets.

“We have great fans all over B.C.,” Canucks president of operations Trevor Linden says in a media release. “This is an excellent event for fans in the Okanagan and gives us a platform to further develop and assess our prospects in competitive games.”

Penticton Mayor Andrew Jakubeit says the event provides 'significant economic activity' for Penticton and neighbouring communities.

“This is high level hockey – fast, very skilled, hard-hitting and intense,” he says in the release, referring to the four-day event as a signature festival.

The event from Friday, Sept. 11 to Monday, Sept. 14 will include a Canucks Town Hall Breakfast, a Minor Hockey Day, development camps for minor hockey players and a Party on the Plaza with games, food, music and entertainment.

Tickets for all six games in the tournament will set you back $60 to $260, plus fees, and go on sale Friday, July 10, at 10 a.m. They’ll be sold online at www.valleyfirsttix.com, by phone at 1-877-763-2849 and in person at the Valley First Box Office at the South Okanagan Events Centre or the Wine Country Visitor Centre.
