Knox Mountain Hill Climb claims first victim

KELOWNA – The Knox Mountain Hill Climb hasn’t even begun yet, but already one person has been sent to hospital with injuries sustained while apparently making preparations for the annual race.

According to a report on Global Okanagan, a man was working under a Chevy truck when he became pinned underneath Friday afternoon.

The man was sent to KGH with unknown injuries and RCMP are on the scene investigating.

The Knox Mountain Hill Climb is an annual event in which drivers climb more than 800 metres on a 2.2 kilometre course along Knox Mountain Park.

Last year a 50-year-old Alberta man's car burst into flames after wet conditions and a sharp hairpin sent his car into a tree.

  1. Sensationalist pap. Poorest quality “reporting” I’ve ever seen!

The way this article is written is extremely disappointing. It depicts this event as a blood bath, which it is most definitely not. Knox has been running since 1958 through the hard work of it organizers and volunteers, whom do an excellent job of keeping both spectators and competitors safe. Poorly worded sentences such as “hasn’t even begun yet, but already one person has been sent to hospital”, or the twisted story of “an Alberta man in his 50’s burst into flames” do nothing but a disservice to the men and women who pour their time and effort into keeping the hill climb alive for all to enjoy.
