Severe thunderstorm watch issued for South Thompson and Nicola

KAMLOOPS – Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the Kamloops and Merritt areas this morning.

Forecasters say conditions are favourable today, May 23, for the development of severe thunderstorms, which may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain.

Hail and intense lightning are also possible with any storm, which develops in the South Thompson and Nicola regions, meteorologists say. The watch also covers the Cariboo and 100 Mile House areas.

“Take cover immediately, if threatening weather approaches. Stay indoors when a thunderstorm strikes. There isn't a place outside that is safe during a thunderstorm,” the severe thunderstorm watch states.
