New charge for woman who allegedly threw twins out window

PROVIDENCE, R.I. – Police have upgraded charges against a Rhode Island mother who allegedly threw her 2-year-old twin boys out a first-floor window.

The Providence Journal (http://bit.ly/2cQcyJG ) reports that 37-year-old Benita Barbour is now charged with child neglect.

The Providence woman was originally charged with disorderly conduct after a neighbour reported on Sept. 20 that she witnessed Barbour toss the boys out of a window onto the front porch.

The boys were in pyjamas and crying outside when police arrived. Police say Barbour appeared drunk and was belligerent. Her boyfriend was reportedly also at the scene but had left by the time police arrived. A warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Barbour remains jailed. It’s unclear if she has a lawyer. The boys remain in state custody.
