MONTREAL – The umbrella organization for Canada’s securities regulators says it is monitoring its systems for unusual activity after several fake emails that purported to come from its staff.
The Canadian Securities Administrators says the emails are believed to be phishing attempts.
The organization says it is also aware of fake emails that were made to look like they were from the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada and the Mutual Fund Dealers Association.
It’s urging anyone receiving an email from those securities regulators to verify if the message is real.
The CSA asks anyone who receives a suspicious email about their organization to contact them.
It also recommends people who receive suspicious emails to change their email and login passwords.
