Serious motorcycle crash in Kaleden

KALEDEN – Two people were taken to hospital in serious condition, one was airlifted to Kelowna, following a crash between a motorcycle and a car on Highway 97 south of Penticton this afternoon.

Emergency crews were called to the crash at about noon, May 24, when a motorcycle hit a vehicle which was turning left from the highway onto Lakehill Road in Kaleden.

A group of motorcyclists travelling northbound on the highway had turned off the highway just before the crash happened, according to firefighter Tony Madiera.

Madiera says the bike was following the group separately when it hit the turning sedan.

Both people on the motorcycle were seriously hurt, with one of them airlifted to Kelowna General.

The victims’ names or hometowns have not been released as the RCMP investigation continues.

  2. no jude we were behind in the line up it was not near the keremeos turn off but sure was a nasty one hope the riders make a speedy recovery this whole stretch is so bad with all the turns that come off and on to the highway.

  3. most of you are talking about the junction – this accident at Lakehill turnoff.

  4. There was also another motorcycle that wiped out about 1/2 km south of this accident. We were about a half dozen or so vehicles behind the 2 bikes as they had just passed us on the highway. The lady driver was able to get up and walk off the road.Definitely had some injuries though. We did not stay as we didn’t witness what happened.

  5. That is a scary part of the road as it the turn off to Kermeos and going to Okanagan Falls, cars turning do not know wether on coming traffic is going straight or turning. People merging onto the highway fro Kaleden think they are merging onto a freeway, some do not even stop. A study needs to be done on that part of the highway from game farm to turnoff for St. Andrews.

  6. I was just at my Mom’s place in Kaleden and I was saying how I don’t like this intersection at all, I also really don’t like turning left on to the 97 after coming up the Hope Princeton…

  7. The hole damed kaleden junctionand kaleden turn- off is dangerous. The highways branch need to do something with this section of hyway 97. Death of citizens doesn,t even move them into action. Maybe an election like Alberta is needed to wake up the government . and look at more oh the valleys bad roads.

  8. This entire stretch is a danger zone, but people continue to treat the middle lane as a passing lane and routinely move 100km/h or more despite the fact that it is posted as 80 km/h.It is often dangerous to turn off the highway due to racing traffic. While the RCMP seems to think it is very important to enforce the speed at the bottom of the hill near Marron Valley Road (on the way to Keremeos), there seems to be a high level of tolerance for speeding between the Keremeos turn-off and Penticton.
