UPDATE: Missing campers safe in Adams Lake area

KAMLOOPS – Campers are now safe and sound after reporting their locaton to Search and Rescue team members looking for them.

Search manager Alan Hobler says the team began the search around 12:40 p.m., May 24, after a woman didn’t return home from a camping trip.

The missing woman’s mother told police her daughter was expected Friday after a camping trip with another family in the Adams Lake area, but she didn’t show up.

Hobler says the woman ended up joining with another group of campers in a motorhome.

"They had a vehicle malfunction and it took them three or four days to get to somewhere where they had cell coverage," Hobler says.

Fifteen search and rescue members were involved in the search, which included checking all the campgrounds in the area, he says. Campers notified the RCMP of their location around 7 p.m.

Hobler says it's good practice to notify others of your camping location and return date before departing.

"It's important to leave those details," he says. "It saves a lot of hassle."
