Vernon woman, 93, wanted help, not a hospital visit

CALLS FOR HELP ANSWERED BY NEIGHBOURS

VERNON – A 93-year-old Vernon woman who fell down, crawled to the door and yelled for help remained adamant she did not want to go to the hospital despite her situation.

In the end, she did, and it was thanks to the help of two good samaritans who heard her cries for help, RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk says.

It was around 4:30 p.m. on Sunday when two neighbours out for a walk heard a cry for help coming from a residence in the 4500 block of Valleyview Place.

“The door was locked so they took the extra step of the man hoisting the woman up over the balcony railing to find out why the cry for help,” Molendyk says.

What they found was the 93-year-old woman who lived there had fallen and was unable to get up.

Police and B.C. Ambulance were dispatched and the woman’s son called to come over.

“The woman was adamant that she did not want to go to the hospital to be checked out,” Molendyk says.

She was convinced however, and received necessary medical attention, Molendyk says. He adds 'things ended well' thanks to the attentive and caring neighbours who took the time to help her out.
