Moderate quake near east coast of Japan

TOKYO – A moderately strong earthquake with an initial magnitude of 5.4 has struck near the East Coast of Honshu Japan.

The U.S. Geological Survey said Wednesday that the quake struck 8 kilometres (5 miles) from Funaishikawa at shortly before midnight (14:47 GMT) at a depth of 46.7 kilometres (29 miles).

The Japan Meteorological Agency says there is no risk of Tsunami from the quake. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
