Naming opportunities come with large donations to hospital fund

PENTICTON – The campaign for funds to equip Penticton Regional Hospital’s planned Patient Care Tower will now include an opportunity for major donors to leave a lasting legacy on the project.

For a $10-million donation, a donor could have their name on the entire tower. Other opportunities include a $30,000 donation to name an individual patient room.

Hundreds of prospective donors in the region have received new brochures outlining the South Okanagan SImilkameen Medical Foundation’s $20-million campaign to equip the new tower, explaining the history of the hospital and the need for the coming expansion. The publication also includes a list of naming opportunities for individuals, businesses and service organizations to dedicate rooms, clinics and other features.

Guidelines from Interior Health stipulate the naming costs for each room or facility should be in the order of 10 per cent of the actual construction value.

Penticton businessman David Kampe and the Summerland Health Care Auxiliary are two donors who have contributed sufficiently to have the upgraded Emergency Department and the Cardiology Diagnostic Clinic, respectively, named after them. Applications are already being processed.

Construction of the hospital upgrade is expected to get underway in 2016. Anyone wishing a copy of the campaign booklet or other information should contact the medical foundation at 250-492-9027, or by email at SOSmedicalfoundation@interiorhealth.ca.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
