The Latest: GOP candidate has suspended Trump endorsement

DENVER – The Latest on a second and possibly final debate with between GOP challenger Darryl Glenn and Colorado’s incumbent Democratic U.S. senator, Michael Bennet. (all times local):

8:40 p.m.

Colorado’s Republican U.S. Senate candidate, Darryl Glenn, says he has “absolutely” suspended his endorsement of Donald Trump over Trump’s lewd remarks about women.

But Glenn also said during a Tuesday debate with Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet that he believes Trump has apologized for his remarks, which were captured in a 2005 recording.

And Glenn says he wants to meet Trump “to know what’s in his heart” before deciding whether to re-endorse the Republican presidential candidate.

Glenn has made several evolving statements of support — or lack thereof — of Trump over Trump’s comments on women.

Bennet told Glenn Tuesday that “I didn’t hear an apology” from Trump during Trump’s presidential debate on Sunday against Democrat Hillary Clinton.

Challenger Darryl Glenn’s embrace — or rejection — of Donald Trump’s fitness to be president could very well dominate a second and possibly final debate with Colorado’s incumbent Democratic U.S. senator, Michael Bennet.

The Republican El Paso County commissioner’s rolling reactions to Trump’s vulgar remarks about women in a 2005 videotape all but overshadowed the run-up to Tuesday evening’s debate.

Glenn said Tuesday he plans to meet with the Republican presidential candidate this week “and give him the opportunity to share his heart and win back my vote.”

He called Trump’s remarks “disgusting and unacceptable” and “abhorrent” and said over the weekend that Trump was “simply disqualified from being commander in chief.”
