Vehicles damaged at SPCA overnight

KAMLOOPS – The local SPCA has once again been vandalized — this time the windows of shelter vans were smashed.

RCMP officers are at the SPCA location on Eighth Avenue to investigate damage to two vehicles. 

Const. Jason Epp says staff arrived Thursday morning to discover both vans were tampered with overnight. 

"The suspects possibly tried to steal the tires," Epp says. 

Valerie Wilson of the SPCA says the thief stole a gas card and removed two lug nuts from a tire before leaving the scene, there was also a box of alcohol bottles and cans left in the lot as well.

"I feel a little sick to my stomach. It’s just sad that a non-profit gets targeted like that," she says. "We don’t get government funding. (Repairing) this just comes out of our donations."

The animal care attendant is frustrated funds planned for the location's overflow of kittens are going towards repairing the vans. 

Last year, the vans were covered with graffiti and then the location lost thousands in a break-and-enter during the month-long City Challenge fundraiser.

The annual City Challenge fundraiser, the largest fundraiser of the year for the shelter, ends this weekend.
