Oklahoma officer fatally shoots man during disturbance call

BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Authorities say a police officer in northern Oklahoma fatally shot a man while responding to a domestic disturbance call.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation says 36-year-old William Clifford Cole was shot Wednesday after officers arrived to find Cole attacking a woman outside a home in Bartlesville, about 125 miles northeast of Oklahoma City. The OSBI says Cole then attacked the officer who eventually shot him.

Cole was pronounced dead at a hospital.

The officer’s name was not released.

The OSBI says both the officer and the woman were taken to a hospital.

Bartlesville Police Capt. Jay Hastings has said an officer was treated for wounds to his face. The woman’s condition was not released.

The officer is on paid leave pending an OSBI investigation into the shooting.
