OROVILLE, Calif. – California officials say they have arrested a Canadian man wanted on a murder charge in that country.
The Butte County Sheriff’s Office says 28-year-old Brandon Teixeira was arrested Sunday in an Oroville home after he rammed his vehicle into a sheriff’s armoured van while trying to escape.
The office says two SWAT teams from other law enforcement departments and U.S. marshals helped arrest Teixeira, who was subdued by a police dog after exiting his vehicle. Teixeira is in federal custody pending his extradition.
The office said Teixeria was one of British Columbia’s most wanted fugitives but gave no other details.
The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation reports Teixeira is facing a charge of first-degree murder in the 2017 shooting death of 28-year-old Nicolas Khabra.
